it has begun

i've been doing this sampled stuff
working with dustin in america
which is cool
but i need something gritty
something in the here and now
i have this idea of something lasting for a short time
well a year would do
then it's the punk thing...
i wonder about doing electronic covers
of punk anthems
but it has to be real instruments
real sweat
real vomit
i get hold of a bass from paul
who comes up with the name (thanks!)
annus horribilus
not sure how to spell it
then
i meet a surly bunch of punky no hopers
in a pub
johnny vomits all
they can't resist

the boy looked at johnny
johnny wanted to run
but the movie kept moving as planned
listening to recordings of yesterday's rehersal
6 pack has loads of energy
i like the drum machine
going dak dak dak dak dak
the tigre song's funky
gaps are good
problem
the problem is you
on the guns
the voices work well together
its good listening later on
at the time i'm too busy
obsessing with the bass
the countdown's begun

jonnie comes along and plays drums
i like it
goodbye drum machines
we get 4 songs together
good enough so as we can
do them all in a row
the third rehersal
it sounds like it could work
the foundations strong
good base for the
new to singing
singers
i'm just excited about being in a chunking rhythm section
a different roll to the horn section but the same "when it works"
then for a few moments

pissed after the marathon party
but it disnae seem to matter

i dream about our first gig
forget to bring the bass
cycle back to get it and
end up on a 12 string bass with mad tuning
the stage is huge
we walk around loads
but not much sign of
an audience
but it is

it doesn't sound too bad considering
the gap
i issue the ultimatum - a gig or we call it a day
and so the possibility of something in deptford on the next friday
it's only later i realise i'll be away, hangin loose with the hippies
on the somerset levels

which seems to go down well
with the crowd (our mates mostly)
